Seeing number go down is a very difficult psychology to overcome. I'm personally dealing with the prospects of that, as are a few others close to me. I loved the insights behind Die With Zero and do my best to follow Ramit Sethi's adjacent concept of living your Rich Life, but the struggle isn't necessarily the number itself, but the idea of trading optionality for a definitive exchange. The technique that works best for me is Bezos's Regret Minimization, or asking my theoretical 80-year-old self what I'd regret most not doing. That usually gets me closer to a lifestyle optimal decision. On the scale of most people's financial situation, having optionality in the first place is a huge luxury, but opens up a host of new psychological traps.

Indeed, the optionality trap is vicious. We hoard choices thinking we're staying free, but really we're just paralyzed by our own abundance. Our 80-year-old selves probably care way less about the portfolio balance and way more about whether we actually lived while our knees didn't creak.

"That’s what winning looks like. A room so full of money you can swim in it."

LOL ... I'm sorry. If that's winning to you, life must suck. Then that must mean all poor people are losers?

Does the superiority complex hurt? Just curious.

It does hurt, but I'm sure it pales in comparison to the inability to read the sentence prior to it, or the rest of the post.

Reactionary much?

"I used to be a miser, now I'm enlightened"

So you found a new identity. What's the next one after this?

"I'm converting money to experiences now"

Converting. Still converting. That's still a bank, just with memories.

"I realized what really matters"

Did you? Or did you just find a more interesting way to be selfish?

What experiences? Name them. List them. And why are you saving for them instead of having them now?

Reactionism is for people who believe in capitalism and Individualism. Why don’t you know that? Do you expect to hurl it around hoping that you effectively guard railed someone like ChatGPT?

Not being able to handle dissent doesn’t make you, right.

Probably just means you’re still hurting from that self worth problem.
